I've been failing to fix this issue for the past couple of weeks, and I'm really hoping someone can help point me in the right direction. 11.5.2) using the download available on (XQuartz-2.8.1.dmg), but I have been unable to use it. On my Intel Macs, with either the XQuartz official package, or the MacPorts version, it works correctly. It only happens with java, and only on the M1 mac. The colors invert whenever the cursor is moving, and then revert to look right as soon as the cursor stops moving.
The application I am using is the java client for Veritas Netbackup (any version). The MacPorts version doesn't work it just hangs when attempting to use ANY X11 app (local or remote). I'm running the latest (2.8.1) "official" XQuartz on an M1 Mac Mini running Monterey 12.0.1 (though I had the same behavior before). I'm using xquartz from macports, 1.20.11_1.
It seems related to moving the cursor, regardless of which application is in focus. I did modify it by adding three lines, calling obj.setBackground(Color.RED) for obj of frame, panel, and button, just to make the changes more visible. I have some hopefully useful characterization of exactly what happens (phenomenological) based on the example from on Mar 17.
I also tried using :0 rather than $DISPLAY, but that also failed.
